Heavily optimized and integrated mall for low tech levels. Makes stashes of the 8 most basic buildings and 3 basic components with a single blueprint! Requires placement and attachment of ore belts.
Smelter balance is selected to defer assembler starvation as long as possible. 2-3 building assemblers can be sustained with the smelter selection.
Significant item count and ore cost improvements were made by abandoning belts for everything except iron ingots and incoming ore. Removing a belt always eliminates at least 1 sorter from a factory on top of the obvious belt reduction.
Inspiration for this design came when I noticed the 8 basic buildings represent the different combinations of the 3 basic components (plus iron ingots). If you omit the miner, it is trivial to lay out smelters, assemblers, and storage in a square grid and ditch the belts. Adding the assembler and storage for the miner to that was challenging. I only overcame it when I added storage buffers for the basic components which extended footprints for these linchpin components enough to make the needed connections. Then I tweaked placement to balance sorter length with recipe needs.
