one wide set of belts that each touch the ground enough to put a sorter on it.
 
quick tip on modifying this for other uses. place dots of belts on the ground and connect sorters to them before pasting the belt part of this blueprint on top of the dots. you can paste the belts themselves on belt dots to connect them without updating the sorter's connection status. this connection also persists after blueprinting such as this blueprint.

Edit: modified design to function better above 30 degrees north/south. Side effect is better tiling at the expense of 1 belt per paste.
